Palma Fiesta: Mare Deu

dancing figures which represent kings, queens and ordinary people from Mallorca's rich history

It's fiesta time in Palma, Mallorca as we celebrate the festival of Mare Déu de la Salut. There's a whole programme of activities including music, concerts, guided tours and so on, but today we highlight perhaps the most important event to take place.

It's the Trobada de Gegants on the 12th September when a whole squadron of enormous figures around 10 feet tall get together for a good old knees up. The dancing figures which represent kings, queens and ordinary people from Mallorca's rich historical past meet up in the centre of Palma and parade around the main streets.

The timetable is
09.30 Palacio Real
10.45 Plaza de Cort
11.15 Parade from Plaza de Cort, Calle Colon, Plaza Mayor, Calle San Miguel, and Plaza España at around 12.30.
If you're in Mallorca, do try to see the parade, it's great fun.
