Palma: A Horse's Tale
animal welfare is becoming more and more important
Things are looking up for the horses which pull the old carriages transporting tourists on pleasure trips round Palma. The council has recently moved one of the stops where the horses 'rest' from out of the blazing sun to a new situation in Calle Conqueridor where there is shade from the trees enabling the horses to cool down a little.
From September the situation will get even better as the main stop where the carriages get most of their business, by the Cathedral, is to be moved slightly to a new purpose built stop in the Parc de la Mar. This will be equipped with a roof to provide shade for 14 horses and carriages and troughs of fresh drinking water for the animals.
It's yet another sign that animal welfare is becoming more and more important in Spain as Palma council recently banned the use of performing wild animals in circuses which visit the city.
