Mallorca Rail
bungling thieves
A couple of stories about travelling by rail in Mallorca
Travellers on the line from Palma to Inca have been experiencing delays over the last couple of months and they're not due to leaves on the track or the wrong kind of snow. It seems that bungling thieves have been stealing the wrong kind of cable, mistaking the fibre optic cable which carries all the information for signals and so on, for the much more valuable copper cable.
Meanwhile, the Metro system is due to resume normal service from Monday when the trains will run every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 on weekends. The service has been halved over the summer to save money on electricity and overtime as most of the Metro's passengers – from the University and Son Castello industrial estate – are on holiday.
For more details of train and metro routes and timetables, see the TIB website.
