Modernism in Palma
the Casa Tarongí in the Plaza de España
There's new in the local papers today that yet another fine example of Modernist architecture in Palma is to be restored and renovated. It's the Casa Tarongí in the Plaza de España and its completion will add yet another important point on the map of Modernist buildings in the city.
This school of architecture was at its height in the early 20th century and one of the first Modernist buildings in Palma was the Gran Hotel which now houses the Caixa Foundation art gallery and restaurant. Our photo shows the twin buildings of Can Casasayas and Pension La Menorquina, curently in the process of being cleaned, which house Purificacion Garcia's shop in Palma.
There are organised tours which explain all about the modernist movement though if you can't make it to Palma, here's a short video showing some of the superb buildings featured on the tour.
