Palma Retail:Thursday Market

10.00 in the morning to 21.30 at night

You really know there's a crisis in the retail sector in Spain when they give up their precious four hour siesta to remain open when their prospective customers are available for shopping and spending.

Around 70 shops in Palma de Mallorca are taking to the streets every Thursday from 10.00 in the morning to 21.30 at night, NON-STOP, in an effort to boost flagging sales. It's hoped that by putting their goods for sale on stalls in the main areas of the city – the Plaza Mayor (photo), Plaza Porta Pintada and Calles Sindicato, San Miguel and Jaime II – they'll recoup some of the losses from May, the month of the volcano ash crisis.

With over 7 million visitors a year from countries all accustomed to shopping throughout the day, there's a fair chance that they'll get a few extra customers on a Thursday!
