Soller Festival, Mallorca
do battle again in an all day fight
The reconquest of Spain by Christian forces over the Moors is celebrated all over the country in many different fiestas, particularly in the south. Here in Mallorca, Soller has its own celebration every year on the second Monday of May – which is next Monday!
The celebrations – known as the Firo de Soller - are already in full swing with sporting, cultural and musical events taking place in many different venues every day. A full programme (in Catalan) is available and the main action starts at 15.00 on Monday when the Moors (flags with crescents) and Christians (flags with crosses) do battle again in an all day fight until the Christians win.
Here's a video to give you an idea of the fun to be had.
