Sport Mallorca: Trotting
entrance is totally free
After football, one of the most popular spectator sports in Mallorca is trotting – races where horses pull 'carriages' with the rider on board. There are two big trotting tracks on the island; Manacor which holds races every Saturday, and Son Pardo (3.5 kms along the Soller road from Palma) where races are held every Sunday.
It's a 16.00 start every week for both tracks and the entrance is totally free. There can be as many as 10 races per event and they usually last until around 20.00. Each race can have as many as 11 competitors and you can have a little flutter on the winner at the track.
My money's on Ben Hur in the 16.30 at Son Pardo!
