Shopping in Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca has a reputation for producing quality shoes...so a shopping trip is a must for the girls! In the narrow streets there are plenty of independent shops that carry known and unknown brands of shoes and handbags – try Carrer Sindicat for the best choice.

There is also a good selection of designer shops such as Loewe, an El Corte Ingles department store and large branches of Zara, Massimo Dutti and Mango.

The main shopping areas for up-market boutiques and designer shops are Avinguda Jaume III and the Passeig des Born, whilst the pedestrian streets around Plaça Major are populated with small specialist shops. Finally for shopping in cool air conditioned comfort you can’t beat the modern shopping centre and hypermarket complex, the Centro Comercial Porto Pi, find it near the port where the ferries dock, about 2km from the city centre.

The Plaza MayorIf you love handicrafts and rummaging for bargains then take yourself down to the Plaça Major where an outdoor craft market is held there Monday, Friday and Saturday mornings. There’s also a small shopping centre here that you may want to exlore.

Note: Many shops close for siesta, with the exception of the some of the larger stores like El Corte Ingles and Zara, so make sure your shopping trips are taken in the morning or late afternoon to avoid disappointment.
