Cala Bona, Mallorca - picturesque fishing harbour

Clustered around a small picturesque fishing harbour is the delightful resort of Cala Bona. Smaller than its sister resort of Cala Millor it has a quiet charm all of its own. The narrow streets, the cafe bars clustered around the working harbour and the three small sandy coves that run along its coastline all combine to offer a delightful holiday destination.

The safe sandy beach is backed by a small walkway where tables and chairs tumble out from cafes and restaurants tempting you in for lunch.

The harbour, however, is the centre of the resort. Here you can linger over a coffee in the mornings and watch the fishing boats depart or enjoy an evening stroll stopping off for tapas or a night cap before returning to your hotel. Elsewhere there are plenty of bars to choose from, many offering entertainment or Karaoke.

Shopping is limited and best left to a day when you fancy the stroll into Cala Millor, but there are enough places to keep you stocked up on beach essentials.

Close by the resort are three 18-hole golf courses – so plenty of choice if there’s a golfer in the family. Alternatively trips out to both Manacor (the centre of Majorca’s artificial pearl production), the Caves of Drach or the Auto Safari Zoo are all popular excursions.

The joy of Cala Bona is that it’s smallness promotes a feel of exclusivity, yet a 15 minute walk away is the large resort of Cala Millor where a wealth of shops, bars and restaurants are at your service. It’s been popular with British visitors for many decades, many returning year after year.
