Cala Ratjada, Mallorca - picturesque and lively

Set amongst a rugged coastline Cala Ratjada is a relatively new resort that has sprung up around the original fishing village. This area has been designated a natural park and special bird sanctuary so the coastline is relatively unspoiled and pine forests cover much of the area.

The resort beach, Son Moll, is fairly small but there is a choice of beaches in this area; Cala Agulla (see photo below) and Cala Mesquida are both reachable by bus from the resort – and may prove to be quieter in high season. Facilities are good on the beaches and water sports are available on all. A promenade takes you down to the picturesque harbour and if sport is your thing then hiking and horse-riding are two popular activities in the area.

Cala AgullaIf you’re looking for a lively time then Cala Ratjada won’t disappoint. There’s a great choice of bars and clubs that open until well into the early hours. If a quieter time is more your thing then you’ll be happy to know there’s a huge choice of restaurants to choose from when dining out. Shops are abundant in the resort selling everything from souvenirs to more upmarket items.

Interestingly Cala Ratjada is the nearest point on Majorca to its neighbouring island of Menorca. If you fancy a day trip with a difference it’s possible to take the hydrofoil over to Cuitadella. If you fancy staying closer to home then visit the city of Capdepera and wander around its ancient cobbled streets or explore the medieval castle.
