Illetas, Mallorca (Illetes) - a small and exclusive resort

Close to Portals Nous (the best address in Majorca) you’ll come across the small and exclusive resort of Illetas. In fact it is so exclusive you may not find it! The directions to this resort are quite poor...so a taxi on arrival might be best.

Mainly frequented by independent travellers, part of its charm lies in the fact that it is largely undiscovered by package tourists. Mainly populated by 4* hotels, holidays are not a cheap option here and will appeal in the main to professional couples or families who discover a resort that has been compared by travel writers to Monte Carlo.

Illetas has all the advantages of being close to the city – so ideal for a shopping trip, sightseeing or a night, and staying there you will feel you’re a world away from fun-in-the-sun resorts such as Magaluf or Palma Nova. A few years ago the beach here won a mention on the Sunday Times travel sections ‘best beaches’. Although there are much better beaches elsewhere, if that’s your thing, the coast here has its own charm and is a mixture of small sandy coves and rocky headlands...great for snorkellers.

Being close to Palma is perhaps the main reason why the shopping opportunities are limited in Illetas, however the few that are in the resort have better than average products for sale. Restaurants tend to be quite upmarket and many are attached to the 4* hotels. There’s still a good choice to be had though and a few offer views to die for whilst you dine; overlooking the bay of Palma.

Evening entertainment is limited; although the large hotels do have regular programmes of shows if that’s your thing. One place that is always mentioned, due to its unusual and scenic position is the Virtual Club. Set into the hillside it is everything to everyone; exclusive chill out during the day where you can eat breakfast and sunbathe on a private terrace or a rocking nightclub staying open until 2pm (late for this resort!).

So if you want an upmarket feel to your holiday but have close proximity to the nightlife, shops and culture of Palma – consider Illetas.
