Without question the focal point of Mallorca's golfing industry, Santa Ponsa incorporates 3 courses set in majestic surroundings and supports a whole community. Only the 18 hole Santa Ponsa I is actually available to the general public, with Santa Ponsa II and III being 'Members Only' clubs.
The course has hosted several major events, for example the Balearic Open of the European Tour 7 times in the 80s and 90s, and is a regular haunt for royal golfers and celebrities.
The course is recognised for its impeccable groundsmanship, with an organic fill that blends into the accompanying countryside. There are open, straightforward fairways perfect for letting fly with the driver, numerous doglegs and water hazards, including a huge lake on the 16th hole. Hole 10 is one of the longest in Europe at some 590 yards.
The 18th hole is a par 4 and noteable for being the scene of a dramatic play off for the 1992 Balearic Open between Seve Ballesteros and Jesper Parnevik....they had it play the hole 6 times to reach a conclusion with Seve ultimately winning.
Another interesting hole is the 18th on Santa Ponsa II, which has an island green in the shape of Mallorca no less (pictured above).
