Wifi zones in Palma.
The Mayoress of Palma, Aina Calvo, inaugurated the new access to the information super highway yesterday and now completely harmless invisible Wifi beams are criss-crossing the Paseo de Born, Parc
de Llevant, Flassaders and s'Escorxador.
Anybody who logs on will first see a welcome page in Spanish, English and Catalan giving basic information about Palma. They'll then have 30 minutes of free browsing courtesy of the council.
It's a 6 Meg broadband coverage which will ensure plenty of people can use it at reasonable fast speeds and the area covered ranges from 200 sq m in the Born to 2000 sq m in the Parc Llevant.
The systems been running for a little while before its official kick off yesterday and officials say that the most popular device used by internauts is the Iphone.
