Every year on the third Saturday of October the city of Palma celebrates the beatification of Santa Catalina Tomás. Beatification is the third of four processes leading to sainthood and Santa
Catalina was beatified in 1792 and eventually proclaimed a saint by Pope Pius XI in 1930.

This year the processions of horse drawn carts filled with people in traditional costumes, music and folk dancing to celebrate take place on the afternoon and evening of 16th around the main
streets of the city as this video shows.

Santa Catalina was born in the beautiful village of Valldemossa in 1531, where you can still see here shrine and the house she was born in, before moving to a convent in Palma where she died in
1574.
