Palma Tram on the Right Track

The much talked about, discussed and kicked about like a political football, Palma Tram

The much talked about, discussed and kicked about like a political football, Palma Tram system has undergone several changes of plan since its inception. Its latest version is now on display to the
public until December 31st in the main Palma bus rail interchange at the Plaza España.

The plan shows the first phase of the tram system from the Plaza España to the airport via Es Molinar and Can Pastilla. It's a slight change from the original route going through Portixol (as our
photo shows) which had logistical difficulties but will mean that the average journey from the airport to city centre is a smooth and comfortable 25 minutes.

Budgets for the first phase are around €150 million for the 10.8 kilometres and it is predicted that 5 million passengers a year will use it. If it starts on time in 2012 it 'should' be operational
by 2014 – here's hoping.
