Gourmet Mallorca: Fish and Chips

Britain's finest dish and Friday family favourite, Fish and Chips is enjoying a gourmet renaissance

Britain's finest dish and Friday family favourite, Fish and Chips is enjoying a gourmet renaissance in its home country thanks to celebrity chefs like Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver and Heston Blumenthal
who have given the dish cachet!

Consisting of fresh North Atlantic fish like cod or haddock, chips and mushy peas, Blumenthal says 'this dish is all about texture: crisp batter giving way to firm white flesh and chips that are
crunchy outside and fluffy within.'

Marc Fosh's Fish and Chips

Hungry? Yes, me too! Well, if you're in Palma you can get to sample the UK's most famous dish in various eateries, both humble and not so humble, across the city.

Let's start with a traditional British Chip Shop where your food is cooked to order there and then to ensure perfect freshness. It's "_blank">Palma Fish and Chips on Plaza Drassana near La Lonja and I can personally recommend their products after sampling them last week. Crispy batter, and delicious chips which I think were
cooked in beef dripping judging by their flavour – and all from sustainable sources and wrapped in biodegradable packaging!

Meanwhile, Mallorca's upmarket and soon to be world dominating brand,  "http://www.grupocappuccino.com/" target="_blank">Cappuccino has introduced Fish and Chips onto its winter menu, and doesn't it look delicious in the photo. Remember their mantra - we serve
food any time – and get along to one of their stylish cafes for a taste of Old England!

Finally, Mallorca's best known British chef, Marc Fosh, was encouraged by Facebook fans to introduce our favourite food to his "http://www.marcfosh.com/index.php/en/misa-braseria" target="_blank">Misa Bar menu on Friday nights – traditional fish eating day – and judging by the photo it's going to be a big
success.

Wherever you go, enjoy, and don't forget to put plenty of salt and vinegar on!
