Palma's annual Art Night, the Nit de l'Art, will be spiced up by the official opening of Gilbert and George's exhibition, London Pictures. The date for your diaries is the 19th September, when over
20 galleries – big and small, public and private – open their doors from 19.00 until late and the city is crowded with tens of thousands of gallery hopping people.
This year the Casal Solleric on the Plaza del Borne has pulled off a coup by bringing an exhibition of rather unconventional art from the tweed-suited adopted East Enders Gilbert and George. London
Pictures consists of 292 poster style images bearing newspaper headlines which the boys collected around the city.
They catalogued around 4000 headlines and using a computer, arranged the most used words – bomb, guns, jailed, killed and hell – in grids superimposed over photos of themselves and some of the
bleaker aspects of London.
Critics have described the work as disturbing, violent, absurd and revealing the sorrows, hopes, impulses, wills and desires of everyday urban life. I'll be making my own mind up when I pop along
to have a look..........
As always it's free to enter and runs from the 19th September until 5th January 2014. Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00 and 15:30 to 20:30 and Sundays and holidays from 11:00 to
