Jazz fans in Palma this week have a double opportunity to see concerts by a fine musician
Jazz fans in Palma this week have a double opportunity to see concerts by a fine musician who has played alongside some of the biggest names in the genre. Jean-Paul Bourelly, born in Chicago to an
American mother and Haitian father, has been playing guitar since the age of 14 and whose music is influenced by the times he grew up in. Jazz, Fusion, Rock are some of the terms applied to his
sound and some pundits detect more than a touch of Hendrix in his style.
His big break came when, at just 18, he moved to New York City in 1979, where he played with Muhal Richard Abrams, Roy Haynes, McCoy Tyner, and Elvin Jones. His credits also include a stint
with Miles Davis, playing on the album Amandla, Pharoah Sanders, Cassandra Wilson and fusion bands with Buddy Miles, Robin Trower and Jack Bruce. Our video features Bourelly playing lead guitar on
Pharoah Sanders' classic track 'The Creator has a Master Plan.'
The two gigs are at Sa Possessio, Gremi Velluters, 14 Pol Son Rossinyol, at 21.00 on Wednesday 28th August. It's an open air concert in this lovely old venue and costs only €10. The following day
he plays Palma's Blue Jazz Club in the Hotel Saratoga at 22.00 and this one is free!
