Palma harbour and its magnificent bay will soon be awash with the sleek sailing craft competing in the 32nd annual King's Cup Regatta, or Copa del Rey de Vela XXXII in Spanish!
The event will convert Palma into the epicentre of the sailing world from 24th July until 3rd August when over 100 entries representing 23 different nations will take part in the competition.
Depending on the class of the boat, each will take part in 11 or 12 races during the comp to determine the winners, so there is plenty to see on a daily basis.
The actual sailing event is centred around the Royal Nautical Club in the harbour, but a Regatta Village is being 'constructed' just across the road in the Sa Feixina park where a series of
marquees will house bars, a restaurant – one of Mallorca's finest, Macarena de Castro's El Jardin, transported from Alcudia for the duration – and sponsor's tents.
During the Regatta, the village will host concerts and live events for one and all, and to ensure that the neighbours don't lose any sleep, all music will cease at midnight and the bars will close
The sight of so many boats – 114 are signed up to compete so far – in the bay is a magnificent spectacle so get down to the Nautical Club area to take in the atmosphere if you're in the area then.
