Palma's magnificent Gothic structure La Lonja – the city's former Maritime Exchange
Palma's magnificent Gothic structure La Lonja – the city's former Maritime Exchange – is currently housing a fantastically successful exhibition of giant sculptures. They're the work of
Liverpool artist Tony Cragg and have been on show for just over a month and already 60,000 visitors have seen them!
There are nine of the artist's works from the last six years on display in the magnificent main hall of the building. Made from several different materials – wood, bronze, iron, stone and plaster –
and with one almost six metres high, they achieve a harmony with the stone pillars and Gothic features of the building itself.
Closed for many years for renovations and reopened a couple of years ago, the Lonja is now permanently open to the public – it's a fabulous building, go if you get the chance – and the opening
hours for this exhibition are
August and September – 18.00 to 24.00
October and November – 10.00 to 14.00 and 17.00 to 20.00
And, of course, it's FREE!
