Three cool Jazz and Funk concerts in fabulous settings
Mallorca's west coast Jazz festival in the pretty mountain village of Banyalbufar has some great gigs over the next three Thursdays. Held in the open air the gigs give the opportunity to take in
some great music against the backdrop of spectacular scenery and the sunset.
First off Funk Off & Bobby Alexander play Banyalbufar village itself on 27th July. Bobby's a versatile singer with a range of tunes from Soul and Funk standards to 21st century House music!
Then Mallorcan combo Saxophobia Funk Project play down at Port des Canonge – all precipitous cliffs, boat-houses and stunning sea views – on Thursday 7th August. Don't let their name fool you, the
guys play a variety of styles from uptempo funk a la Maceo Parker to classics from Ellington and Blakey.
Finally, the man who gave us one of the most well known sax riffs ever, Molly Duncan winds up the event in BBF on 14th August. Molly's the man who brought us the catchy bit of 'Pick Up the Pieces'
when he was with The Average White Band and these days spends his time touring both Europe and the rest of the world playing with his own Jazz troup.
I thought about embedding a video of the song, but decided against it as you'll be whistling the insidious riff all day!
If you fancy it, all the concerts start at 20.00 and are all FREE. See you there?
