Palma's short term bike rental scheme now available for tourists
Just over 12 months ago we told you that Bicipalma, Palma's short term bike 'pool' scheme would be available for tourists to
use this year. Up until last week Bicipalma's use was restricted to citizens of Mallorca who paid an annual fee for the ability to hire the hop on, hop off bikes parked at 28 stations around the
As from last week, anybody can now become a short term member of the scheme and enjoy 30 minutes of free use of each bike throughout the day – ideal for short journeys around the city. The cost is
€9 for three days and €12 for five and it's so easy to join, just log onto the "_blank">Bicipalma website, buy your membership with a bank card and you'll be given a PIN number to use.
To get a bike, go to one of the bike stations, and introduce the pin number into the multi-lingual User Information Point and then select 'Pick Up Bicycle.' You are then given the number of the
dock where the bike is parked and a green LED light flashes to indicate where this is. Take the bike, ride it for less than 30 minutes and then park it in any of the bike stations you wish and
there's no extra charge!
Repeat this process as and when desired until the short term membership expires. The scheme has been really successful in making short journeys around the city easy and less environmentally
damaging than cars or buses and will be a great boon for anyone on holiday in Palma for a short break. I'll certainly use it on my next trip, will you?
