Cala d'Or Jazz Festival XVIII

The sound of Jazz fills the streets, bars and hotels of Cala d'Or.

The picturesque modern resort of Cala D'Or on the south east coast of Mallorca once again hosts its annual Jazz Festival this month. It's the 18th year in succession that the resort has been
flooded with the sounds of New Orleans Trad Jazz and swing music, but this year it's just a little different.

In the past the whole shebang has been organised by Rolf Wagemann, a German with property in Cala d'Or. A labour of love, the annual festival was a roaring
success
bringing around 3,000 people (bands, friends, family followers and Jazz fans) to the resort and with only minimal funding and support from the Santanyi town hall.

This year Wagemann's plans to hold the festival in June were thwarted because there's a very important World Cup on at the very same time. So, the council themselves have taken on the mantle of
organising the festival, which will take place on six days between 19th and 24th May.

No less than 12 musical combos will perform throughout the fest, some well-known around Mallorca, and others brought in just for this occasion. They are: Little Lion Trio, Swing Creole, Zavellazz,
Mardi Gras, Frullatto Quartet, 5 DJazz, Mack The Latin Jazz, Sinuata, Jazz Fingers, Long Time No Swing, Lua Jazz Duo,  Glissando Big Band and Pat Metheny Project. With the aid of Dr. Google,
you'll be able to check out who you fancy seeing if you're on holiday in the area or just musing over going along to have a look.

If our chosen video of the Glissando Big Band playing Benny Goodman's 'Bei Mir Bistu Shein.' has whet your appetite, take a look at this "http://www.ajsantanyi.net/imgdb/archivo_doc274703.pdf" target="_blank">Programme PDF of all the dates, times, venues, and map of the event.
