Pollensa's 11th annual wine fair, held in the Santo Domingo convent's cloisters
Ever since 2004 the Primitive Wine Association together with the town council have been holding a very successful annual wine fair and 2014 is no exception, with 3rd and 4th May as the dates
for your diary.
Around 4,000 people visit every year with around 6 or 7 hundred professionals attending to taste and sample the products of some 30 to 40 (there are 35 this year) bodegas and cellars large and
small. In fact so successful has the fair been, that it now attracts wines from all over the Balearic Islands and is sometimes known as the Balearic Wine Fair!
It's held in the beautiful cloisters – all sandstone, columns and arches – of the ancient Santo Domingo Convent which makes a fittingly serene setting for the joyful business of sampling the best
of the Balearics' grape harvest.
If you fancy going, remember that Pollensa itself is a picturesque, historic town with plenty of nice bars and restaurants as well as famous attractions like the Calvary steps (photo) and is a
really nice place to stay. You could, of course, stay in one of the many hotels in the resort of Puerto Polensa, or maybe choose a hotel located in the
town centre, for example;
Hotel Desbrull, a traditional stone house with contemporary design inside or "http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/son-sant-jordi.en-gb.html?aid=1474536">Hotel Son Sant Jordi, a family run boutique hotel housed in 17th century buildings in one of Pollensa's beautiful squares.
Sounds like a plan to me...........
