In less than 30 days Palma's celebrated Christmas, New Year, The Three Kings, the Winter Sales
In less than 30 days Palma's celebrated Christmas, New Year, The Three Kings, the Winter Sales and now not one, but two Saints' days! The more than week long fiestas of Palma's Patron Saint, San
Sebastian start on Saturday and encompass the celebration of San Antonio on the 17th January and include lots of music, dancing, feasting, fireworks and possibly a bit of drinking too!
San Sebastian, who in life had no known medical knowledge and was martyred for his Christian beliefs by the Romans, was made the Patron Saint of Palma by its grateful populace after one of
his bones was attributed to have cured a plague epidemic ravaging the city in 1524. For hundreds of years the city has celebrated on January 20th and still continues to do so, but with a few days
added for good measure!
