Top women's tennis for Mallorca

A new top level tennis comp on GRASS comes to Mallorca

With dozens of tennis clubs, schools and leisure courts, Mallorca certainly is a great destination to learn and play tennis throughout the whole year. However they're all clay courts, which will
come as no surprise to fans of the island's sporting hero Rafa Nadal who is at his best on terra firma!

There will be a big change in 2016 as the WTA, the governing body of women's tennis has decided to extend the grass court season in the lead up to Wimbledon and will be holding a top level comp in
Palma!

The expansion of the grass court season from two to three weeks provides a chance for new tournaments to be added to the WTA calendar - and
Mallorca will be one of those in 2016. Starting on 13th June, it will take place in a specially built venue with world class facilities including five permanent natural grass courts, an academy and
a retail development.

It's the perfect opportunity for the island and Palma in particular to add to its sporting reputation and to achieve this the council and organisers e|motion management GmbH have enlisted the aid
of no less than The All England Lawn Tennis Club in the construction and maintenance of the courts!

The WTA (Website and photos) see the Mallorca competition as a major phase in the transition from clay at Roland Garros to the lush green
grass of Wimbledon just a few weeks later and you never know, some of the really big names in the sport like Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova might just put in appearance?
