Free water sports, squid dishes, fashion, music and fun
Here's a great opportunity to try your hand at pretty well every water sport under the sun and nearly all for free. It's the second annual Can Picafort water sports and food fair taking place in the resort this weekend, 30th and 31st May which is being promoted by the local council.
Now, there is an online brochure available which lists all the times and dates of the activities, and even though it's all in Catalan the times and names are easily understood – eg 12:00 - Surf. Mostly taking place in the sea by the 'Plaza Cervantes' square you can show off your skills or have expert instruction in stand up paddle board, windsurfing, sailing, kayak, catamaran, scuba diving, kite-surfing, surfing, flyboard and underwater fishing.
How fantastic is that? And it just gets better because on both days, from 11:00 until late, there's a food fair running at the same time specialising in that much maligned marine delicacy, the squid. Prepared properly it's tasty and tender and not the least bit like an elastic band as some would have you believe!
The Plaza Cervantes will be full of stalls where 14 local restaurants will have their best squid dishes on sale and another 6 restaurants will be serving squid up on their own premises. Celebrated chef Tomeu Caldentey, who has a Michelin star in his Es Moli d'en Bou restaurant will also be along to give a show cooking demo at 19:30 on Saturday, with live and DJ music before and after. On Sunday at 12:00 there's a big fashion parade put on by all the local boutiques with clothes for kids and adults on the catwalk.
Sounds like fun doesn't it? See you there?
