Magic in the Museum

Soller museum hosts micro entertainment night

The Can Prunera Modernism Museum in Soller is magical enough in itself, but on Friday 10th July it has an extra dose of stardust when Espai Micro takes over for the evening. As you'll know from Spotlight's past articles about the place, Can Prunera was originally the house of a wealthy merchant family who had made a fortune in France and built their home in Soller in the popular Art Nouveau style.

Known as Modernism in Spain, the style is prevalent in Soller, Palma and Barcelona, and like Gaudi's La Pedrera apartment, Can Prunera gives a voyeuristic insight into how the wealthy lived a century ago. The attention to detail of all the fixtures, fittings and furniture is unbelievable; gorgeous floor tiles, the most ornate chandeliers, stained glass, and elegant furniture lovingly constructed from the finest wood.

It's a marvellous place to visit, and now packed with permanent and temporary exhibitions of modern art which fill its spaces from the old kitchens, house and servants' quarters to the marvellous gardens, immaculately laid out and dotted with statues, where concerts are held in the summer months.

On Friday, Can Prunera becomes the stage for Espai Micro, a travelling mini-entertainment 'theatre' consisting of six 'acts' which performs in beautiful and emblematic venues around the island. In the past they've performed in the Alfabia Gardens, the monastery in Pollensa and the Soller train – dancing in the aisles as it trundled up the tracks!

Starting at 21:00 the evening will consist of music by Jaume Anglada, improvised theatre from Trampa Teatre, contemporary dance by Carlos Miro, magic from Enzo Lorenzo, history by Carlos Garrido and tah dah, a gastronomic beer tasting from Beer Lovers! Something for everyone, but if you don't speak Spanish (or maybe Mallorquin) the good news is that you only pay €3 for each micro performance, so you're not paying for something which may not interest you!

What a great idea! Can Prunera's really easy to find at Carrer Sa Lluna, 86 – 90, which is the main shopping street in Soller, just off the main square with the town hall, church, bank and lots and lots of cafes. Enjoy.
