A special evening at a very special agrotourist hotel
There's a very special agrotourism hotel in Mallorca, close to the popular tourist resort of Alcudia but a world away in terms of style and atmosphere. It's the Hotel Son Simo Vell, still very much a working farm which produces wine, olive oil, oranges, lemons, vegetables and eggs, but has been sympathetically converted into a wonderful place to stay.
Simple, luminous, minimalist, modern yet traditionally styled, this wonderful hotel sits in 40 hectares of its own grounds, ideal for a spot of hiking, and containing ancient ruins. It's quiet, relaxing, has a gym, swimming pool and only 8 rooms, so no dawn rush to grab a pool lounger!
It's just the sort of place I'd like to kick back and relax in – take a look at the details and lots of photos on our hotel section – and has the advantage of being on the doorstep of the traditional towns of Alcudia and Pollensa.
Not that I'd need an excuse to visit, but there's a perfect reason to go and have a look this Saturday, 5th September, when there's a special evening of music, wine and food starting at 20:00.
The music is courtesy of a big lady with a big voice, Bilonda, well known on the Mallorca soul music scene, who along with the musicians and choir of the Ciutat de Mallorca Orchestra will be giving a superb gospel concert. The food comes from the famous and highly regarded Celler Can Amer under the direction of super chef Tomeu Torrens so you know it's going to be excellent.
If that wasn't enough, the wines all come from Can Simo Vell itself. Under the name Pecat, you'll be able to taste Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, matured in French oak barrels! Doesn't it sound great? If you fancy going along, ring 971 140 981 to book in advance for €40 or pay on the door on the night for €50 but do check before you go.
