Americana in Inca; fast food, wheels and rock'n'roll!
The Happy Days of the fifties pay a visit to Inca at the end of the month when the town holds its Leather Fest 2015. It's a celebration of all things American from the time when The USA led the world in terms of youth cults, music and fashion! Back then, kids in leather cruised for burgers on cool motorbikes, raced hot rods and danced to rock and roll.
Aptly, Inca, Mallorca's leather capital, is holding its celebration of music and food on the 31st October and 1st November when a host of rock'n'roll bands (you can tell by their nostalgic names) take to the stage to play - Black Cats, Darco, The Quatermass, Hombre Lobo Internacional and The Cool Daddies. Meanwhile some of the best cruisin' classics of the American highways show off their curves, fins, whitewall tires (notice how I used US English there?) and low, low suspension to the adoring masses.
Now, anybody feeling peckish after rocking the night away can satisfy their stomach's desires from the convoy of food trucks which roll into town at the same time. Food on the go is becoming trendily big business in Mallorca at the moment with more and more chefs taking to the road to sell their wares. Confirmed so far for the foodie section of the Leather Fest are; El Cochinillo Crujiente, Snack Mobile, Le Petit Caravan, Notenom Fusion Food, Manduca Street Food, Anita Cakes, DelCampAlPlat.
That's a big variety of food styles on show there, with plenty of burgers and hot dogs for all, though I'm pretty sure that not all of them are pure Americana – El Cochinillo Crujiente (the crunchy piglet) in particular sounds more Mallorca than Michigan!
Just to add to the atmosphere, there's a vinyl music market on as well were fans of real records can pick up some gems and rarities.
It all takes place in the Quarter General Luque area of Inca from 17:00 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday – just take a look at the map.
