Mallorcan chef wins Top Chef

Marcel Ress triumphs in popular TV cooking competition

The popular Top Chef TV cooking competition, known as Mastechef in Britain and MeisterKoch in Germany has been won by a chef based in Mallorca. Bavarian Marcel Ress – he's only 27 – triumphed in the high pressure, high stress comp last week having spent weeks competing against some of Spain's top pro chefs.

However, young Marcel is no stranger to cooking at the highest level, having spent 6 years as head chef at Marc Fosh's Simply Fosh restaurant in Palma, during which time it gained a Michelin Star and Repsol Sol! Now, he's decided to branch out on his own and will soon open his own place in Mallorca as part of the new Villa Wesco space planned for Santa Maria del Cami in 2016.

German readers will be familiar with the Wesco lifestyle brand of kitchen equipment and furniture which is due to open it's Mallorcan venture in a renovated grand townhouse on 1st March. Part of the project will be Marcel's Wesco Cooking by Re(ss) project where foodies will be able to eat and learn how to cook the food in courses and show cooking demonstrations which can be booked on the Wesco website.

Many of the creations to be featured in the courses were featured by Marcel in Top Chef where he fused native Mallorcan ingredients and styles with a nod to his Bavarian roots. Here's what Wesco say about his cooking and philosphy “The offer of cooking courses and show-cooking events is a journey through 5 continents. Marcel Ress and his team will surprise with new creations and techniques. All recipes can easily be cooked at home. It’s about modern and healthy nutrition, new trends and about communication and fun.

So, what more could you want, great surroundings, great food, and all cooked by a top chef. Well done Marcel Ress and good luck in your new venture.
