An audio guide app to the historic sites and buildings of Alcudia
Hands up who likes carrying a whole wad of paperwork around when you're on holiday just so you can know a little bit about where you are? No, me neither. So here's the good news for anyone visiting the lovely old town of Alcudia in north west Mallorca – the council have produced an audio guide which fits neatly into your mobile phone which tells you all you'll need to know about the town's history and landmarks.
Called Experience Alcudia, the app is totally free and is available in both formats, VHS and Beta (just joking; IOS and Android) from the usual online market places. It's multilingual, giving you all the info in English, German, Spanish, Catalan, French and Russian, and for those with a phobia of roaming it's all downloaded onto the phone so no need for internet connection!
A map using GPS geolocation tells you where you are in relation to the monuments and all the sites have a QR code which the app can read in order to start the commentary. Included in the 15 commentaries are guides to the Medieval walls, 16th century bastions, Sant Jaume Church, and of course the Roman city of Pollentia ruins – La Portella and the Forum.
The app's a great idea, user friendly, free and ideal for those looking to learn more of the culture of Alcudia. It's also perfect for those eager to sample the food and drink of the many bars and restaurants in the old town as the app travels with you at your pace and never complains if you spend too much time watching the world go by.
I'll be giving it a try on my next visit to Alcudia, will you?
