Cheers for the beer and all hail to the ale
Yes! The greatest activity known to mankind – eating tapas and drinking beer – makes a welcome return to Palma at the end of the month when Beer Palma II takes place. Following the success of last
year's event, organisers have arranged for the second annual edition to take place from the 30th April to the 11th May at the Parque del Mar recreation area just in front of
the cathedral, overlooking the lake.
So for 12 whole days (Monday to Thursday 11 to 22 and 11 to 23 on the other days) we'll be able to taste, sample and enjoy no less than 129 beers and a cracking range of some of the best tapas in
There'll be almost 50 little stalls selling beers from all over the world – lager, pale ale, malt, stout, bitter and even no-alcohol – amongst others, with a great selection of craft beers brewed
here on the island. Some of the names to conjure with are; Tramuntana Rossa pale ale, Sullerica Fosca porter, Beer Lovers Bram amber ale, all from Mallorca and from Europe and America, Brew Dog
Punk IPA, Erdinger Dunkel and O'Hara's Red! Just take a look at the Beer Palma website for all the details.
The even better news is that a great day's eating, drinking and making merry is going to be easy on the wallet. All the beer is served in 33 cl measure which will cost between 2 and 4 Euros and the
food, tapas, pinchos, the finest slivers of ham and Koldo Royo's famous hot dogs (is there a finer accompaniment to a beer?) will be between 1 and 3 Euros.
All you need to do is buy tokens for a Euro each and hand them in at the stalls in return for whatever your heart desires. As you can see from the photos and video, it's a well patronised event,
and now wonder with such great products and prices. So well done to everyone concerned, and if you're going remember; no beard, pipe or tweed jacket required!
See you there?
