The classic cars are back at Mallorca's Puerto Portals yacht harbour
Like clockwork, the Swiss watch sponsored Oris Rally Clasico is back again for its spring outing to Mallorca this week. Starting on Thursday 10th March around 100 classic cars will be based in the swish Puerto Portals 'lifestyle' harbour, packed with upmarket shops, bars, restaurants and of course, the gleaming yachts themselves.
For once, it's the land based 'boys' toys' that steal the show as classic cars from all over the world are berthed port-side hustling for the attention of the thousands of visitors keen to see the sleek curves, shining chrome and lovely bodywork of these well kept kings of the road.
Names from the past and present will be competing over the three days (10th, 11th and 12th March) when jostling for position on the winding roads will be the likes of; TVR, Lotus, Jaguar, Triumph, MG, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, VW, BMW and Chevrolet will burn rubber!
The three days each have a different route but all are around the west coast area of Mallorca and take in mountain roads, scenic views and of course, the famously hairpin bended Sa Calobra road in the Tramuntana mountains. However the rally is as much a social event as a good natured race and there are many activities planned for the competitors during the event.
If you fancy going and having a peek at the motors then it's best to visit Puerto Portals when the cars are parked up pre or post race. Here's the timetable;
10th – 12:00, viewing of the cars. 19:00 depart, 20:30 return.
11th – 08:30 depart, 17:45 return
12th - 08:30 depart, 17:30 return
