Calvia's spring food fest every Friday in April
April certainly isn't the cruellest month if you like your food and are in Mallorca. Over in the Calvia municipality the council have once again promoted a fantastic food festival to bring folk flocking into the area in what the tourist industry calls the shoulder months.
To celebrate the arrival of spring, the next four Fridays in April will be the dates for your diary in the 'Calvia is Gastronomy' food festival. A total of 60 restaurants throughout the borough will have some rather special menus – 3 courses and a drink – prices at only €10, €12 or €16 per person.
Open at lunch, dinner or both, the restaurants – and there's an enormous variety of national and regional cuisines represented – have been divided into four areas and each area will be featured on individual Fridays. Here's the schedule;
8th April: Ca’s Català, Bendinat, Illetes, Portals and Costa d’en Blanes.
15th April: Palmanova, Son Caliu, Magaluf and Son Ferrer.
22nd April: Santa Ponça, Costa de la Calma and Son Bugadelles.
29th April: Peguera, Cala Fornells, El Toro and Calvià.
So if you're lucky enough to live here, or be on a very long holiday, you can get round to each Friday's shindig and enjoy the likes of pork cheeks, cuttlefish, shoulder of lamb, Thai green curry, roast cod, monkfish wok and so on.
I'm already working up an appetite and if yours has been whetted, then just cast your eye over this handy downloadable PDF with maps, menus, prices and times on it to plan your Calvia gastro route this month.
Bon Profit and see you there!
