The 38th annual Deia music festival taking place all throughout the summer.
Wow, can it really be 38 years ago when a group of musicians got together in rather humble beginnings to start what is now known as the Deia International Music Festival? And international, it truly is, with artists growing in stature and calibre each year as the festival has grown and grown.
Undoubtedly one of the reasons for its popularity and fame is not the music itself, but the stunning location in which it is held, Son Marroig, high on the cliff tops between the towns of Deia and Valldemossa. It's an over 500-year-old stately home which once belonged to the Austrian nobleman and voyager Archduke Ludwig Salvatore Lorena and Bourbon. It's a beautiful building with spectacular sea views and is the ideal venue for chamber music with a capacity for just 200 people.
As always, there's a wide variety of musical styles on offer, with something to suit most of us, and if you want to go, contact the organisers as early as possible as the numbers are limited. Here's a list of the concerts, with ticket details below. Enjoy.
