Beach library opens at Cala Millor
The long sandy beach at Cala Millor is perfect in itself, with soft golden sands and clear blue seas which with the addition of a few coconuts would really give the impression of being on a Caribbean shore. It's just perfect for stretching out in the sun and reading a good book and now the good people at the council have made that so easy for us by opening a 'biblioplaya' or beach library.
Just by the beach in Cala Millor's Parc de la Mar, you'll find a small wooden hut which is chock full of titles in four languages; Spanish, Catalan, German and English for you to borrow, take to the beach and return when you've finished it. It's a great idea and saves us bringing our own tomes to the beach or risking dropping our Kindles into the sand or sea!
It's one of several measures introduced to improve life for beach lovers at Cala Millor which has once again been awarded the European Blue Flag for its cleanliness and facilities. Its 'Bay Watch' life savers will be on duty for much longer hours in the summer months, there's a kids' amusement park, ping pong tables, showers, sanitary services and best of all, security boxes available for you to store your valuables while you sunbathe or swim.
And if you still need something to do, there's a daily entertainments programme laid on to keep anybody who needs occupying, occupied. It's actually the first beach I ever came to in Mallorca just 37 years ago and I still like it, though I prefer to keep an eye on what's going on rather than read a book. What about you?
