Mallorca Open tennis tournament

Santa Ponsa's swish new tennis club hosts the top pro's

The French Open's just finished and Wimbledon's on the near horizon, so these days that means it's time for the Mallorca Open, an official WTA (Women's Tennis Association) competition. Played on the finely trimmed grass of Santa Ponsa tennis club's new centre court some of the best ladies in world tennis will be warming up for Wimbers from Saturday 11th June to Monday 20th.

Little did they know it when the tournament was organised that one of the star players taking part, the Venezuelan/Spanish tenista Garbiñe Muguruza, would arrive as the current French Open Champion. She defeated the most famous female tennis player in the world, Serena Williams who has dominated the sport with grand slam after grand slam in the recent past in a stunning 7–5, 6-4 victory at Roland Garros last week.

Her presence is sure to bump up demand for tickets in the 4,000 capacity centre court which will be available to buy on the day at the club, but can be bought now online for €40 or €45 for sitting in the stand. VIP packages in boxes at the clubhouse are available for quite a bit more.

The new club has enviable facilities with a number of grass courts, the superb centre court overlooked by the clubhouse and a swimming pool for a quick refreshing dip when a glass of lemon and barley water just won't do! In the evenings during the tournament, the facilities will be used for special events and parties with music and dancing.

All the details of who, when, where and how much can be found on the official website, which I'm sure will be a great draw for any tennis fans holidaying in Mallorca.
