Five concerts for the thirteenth annual Jazz fest
Another unmissable staple of Mallorca's musical year is coming up soon, the 13th annual Alcudia Jazz festival. As usual there are five weekly Jazz concerts featuring a variety of styles on the agenda. Taking place in different venues, both in the town itself and its holiday resort Puerto de Alcudia, so a boon for anyone holidaying there over the coming weeks.
It all kicks off (and I mean that in a good way) on 26th August at 21:00, when Enric Pastor and his band start proceedings in the charming Patio de Can Torro (the public library) in the centre of Alcudia. It's a lovely atmospheric setting (photo courtesy Pinterest) and the perfect stage for some Classic/World/Nu Jazz as played by Pastor and co.
Following that you can see;
3rd Sept, 21:00, Paseo Maritimo, Puerto Alcudia – the Domisol Sisters (photo) singing some great tunes from the 40's a la Andrews Sisters
10th Sept, 21:00, Alcudia Auditorium – Guitarist Sébastien Giniaux plays Gypsy Jazz a l a Django Reinhardt
17th Sept, 21:00, Alcudia Auditorium – Myles Sanko sings soul with a 70's (the decade not his age) influence.
23rd Sept, 21:00, Alcudia Auditorium – Miguel Lamas who's been playing the drums since he was four and has gigged with the likes of Roy Hargrove in the past.
So, a bit of something for everyone there, though I think that the most popular will definitely be the lovely retro Domisol Sisters' concert at the port, where all things being equal and given the popularity of swing in Mallorca, there'll be jitterbugging and Lindy hopping a-plenty by the sea.
See you there?
