Palma's big tapas shindig starts this week
Are you ready to tapa? Palma puts on its 12th annual tapas fest this week starting on Wednesday 19th October until Saturday 22nd as we told you some while ago – read about it here – and now we have the details of the participating bars and restaurants and the routes.
This year 48 eateries are taking part in Tapalma which as well as a tapas fest is a competition to find the best gourmet food in miniature decided by a public vote by you, me, and anyone else who goes along to enjoy the superb gastronomy on show.
It's a win win situation for everyone, we get to taste some great food at low, low prices and the restaurants get to show off their skills, publicise their food and get the kudos of prizes for the best tapas in various categories.
Our photo shows last years winner, 'Castañuela de Mar' by chef Igor Rodríguez of BITE restaurant and illustrates how complex, attractive and delicious food in bite sized portions can be. This year's competitors will have to pull out all the stops to match this, and I'm sure they will.
All the details of the different routes you can follow are on a map provided by the organisers on the Tapalma webpage. A new entry for this year is the San Juan gastromarket, which we've featured a lot here on Spotlight, mainly because it's very good, which has a dozen eateries giving us some fine tapas, cocktails and long drinks at fixed, low prices.
If you've never been on 'tapeo' (a tapas crawl) then you should give it a try; it's a fun, sociable way to eat and drink – standing, sitting, chatting – and my tip would be, relax, take it easy, you don't have to try EVERYTHING in the bar on the same night.
Going? Me too. See you somewhere between bar #1 and #48!
