Jazz concerts all over Mallorca
Starting this Friday, music lovers can enjoy 16 days of Jazz concerts taking place all over Mallorca from 25/11 to 10/12 courtesy of the Alternatilla Jazz Festival 2016. The festival, named after the not-for-profit cultural association Alternatilla, aims to promote and dinamise a cultural interraction between international, national, and island musicians and at the same time give the great Mallorcan public a chance to listen to some really great music.
The international theme of the festy comes courtesy of some young, not so young, emerging and established musicians from the Dutch Jazz scene who will be playing their own concerts and joining with local musicians at other times. The concerts are scheduled in all four corners of the island (and some bits in the middle) with Alcudia, Calvia, Esporles, Inca, Llucmajor, Muro, Palma, Pollença, Porreres, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Santa Margalida and Sa Pobla all taking part – so there'll be one near you at some stage.
The line up features a list of versatile musicians, covering a whole diverse range of jazz music, amongst them; Toni Miranda Quartet, S’Arrual Jazz Mort, Xavi Torres Trio, Reijseger Fraanje Sylla (photo,) Benjamin Herman Quartet, Perico Sambeat, Reinier Baas & The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble, BRUUT!, Sanne Huijbregts, and Jesse van Ruller trio.
And just to give you a brief example of this diversity, the three guys in Reijseger Fraanje Sylla, on cello, piano and voice combine the rhythms and nuances of classical jazz, Bach and traditional Senegalese vocal patterns in their music. Take a listen to the video – it's quite hypnotic.
