Repsol awards 25 Sols to Mallorca
Much like the French tyre company Michelin has its renowned guide awarding stars to worthy restaurants all over the world, the Spanish fuel company Repsol has its own Sol (sun) awards for what it considers the best restaurants in Spain. The ratings of one, two or three Sols are given by a panel of independent experts from the Asociación de Amigos de la Real Academia de Gastronomía and the Cofradía de la Buena Mesa.
Their valuation is based on the culinary excellence, quality of the ingredients and their execution, respect for the cuisine of the region, the wine list and the service to the table and in the restaurant as a whole. As you can imagine, its a prized and coveted award that all top class restaurants aspire to.
Well, the list of go to eateries for 2017 has just been published and Mallorca has a grand total of 18 restaurants on it – 7 with 2 Sols and 11 with 1 – and they are;
Two Sols
Andreu Genestra - Capdepera

This year the Bens d'Avall restaurant which has spectacular views from its position high on the road from Soller to Deia has gained another Sol to join the list of 2 Sol restaurants and the currently globetrotting young chef, Andreu Genestra, who also has a Michelin Star, has two restaurants in the list with Aromata in Palma and Andreu Genestra in Capdepera!
All in Spanish, the Repsol Guide gives a description of the restaurant, the important details like opening times, prices, address and contact numbers as well as a detailed rating of all the principal ingredients used to rate the place – vegetables, wines, service, meat, cheese, ham and so on. Take a look, it's really interesting.
As you can see, the whole of Mallorca is covered, so pretty well where ever you are staying on the island, there's an excellent restaurant close by. Enjoy your meal.
