Caves of Drach featured on new postmark
Correos, the Spanish post office, has just honoured one of Mallorca's most fascinating tourist attractions with its very own postmark. The printed stamp, which has the date and place of posting, features the eerie subterranean landscape of the Caves of Drach in Porto Cristo and is only available – on request - at the town's post office in la Zanglada.
It's therefore a unique souvenir of a trip to the town and the caves and could quite possibly be valuable in the future to both stamp and postmark collectors. If you didn't already know, the Caves of Drach are a major attraction on the east coast of Mallorca and are comprised of four large underground chambers 25 metres below ground and whose passageways extend to some 2.4 km
Stalactites and stalagmites, illuminated by glowing spotlights form an other worldly landscape, fascinating to see, whilst Lake Martel, a subterranean lake is the venue for daily classical music concerts, famed for its acoustics and unique surroundings.!
If you're over in the area, do go and have a look, and if you're farther away, there's plenty of parking at the caves, and don't forget to get your postcard home postmarked at the post office
