A unique experience for all things cycling
There's a unique experience waiting for cycling buffs in the Mallorca town of Alaro, nestling between the rugged Tramuntana mountains and the wide flat plain of the island. Cycling Planet is a concept designed to appeal to everyone who loves pedal-powered two-wheelers – and there are a lot of them who come to train, compete and generally enjoy the ideal climate, facilities and challenging landscape of Mallorca.
So, what's the deal? Cycling Planet is a one stop shop that's a cafe, shop, workshop, and bike rental centre! But that's not all, because in an effort to make the place as green and environmentally friendly as the sport, they've used as much recycled material as they can. The walls, entire bar, tables and bench seats are constructed from the 50 degree banked Siberian pine wood reclaimed from the 2007 World Championship track in Palma de Mallorca's velodrome.
It's not surprising that Cycling Planet has gained a great reputation amongst the cycling fraternity in Mallorca with many of the top teams who train here popping in for a coffee, a beer, some melt in the mouth serrano ham and to chat, swop ideas and generally relax. Visitors have included riders from the US, Irish, Mexican and South Korean National teams, which when you consider that the co-owner is David Muntaner, a born and bred Mallorcan, and two time Olympian and championship winning rider is not surprising.
Fancy popping in to buy a new set of gears, a funky cycling top, have your puncture repaired or sit at a velodrome table with an ice cold beer? Cycling Planet is on Av. Constitució, 26, 07340 Alaró, and opens;
