Mallorca Gay Men's Chorus
The Mallorca Gay Men's Chorus kick off their 'Jazz Do it!' fund raising tour of Mallorca with a concert in Arta's town centre theatre. They're raising money to fund their trip to sing in a charity concert at New York's Lincoln Center on 4th June in memory of Tyler Clementi, a young American homosexual who committed suicide because of the harassment he suffered.
Anyway, on a lighter note, the concert in Arta is all about travelling the world and through time without leaving your seat. The 30 singers of the choir accompanied by live musicians, lights, and projections will sing and dance their way through a glamorous and sophisticated array of music from the golden age of Jazz with songs by Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald to name just a few.
We're assured that we won't be able to keep still in our seats during the performance, and having watched a few videos of the men in action, there's certainly a lot of audience participation! The second half of the show gets off to a classical start with a performance of Wagner's Pilgrims' Chorus from Tannhauser before bringing us bang up to date with songs from the likes of Mónica Naranjo, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay.
Tickets only cost €12 and are available at the theatre itself on the night of the performance on Friday 31st March at 20:30 when you can pay on the door. The lads have other shows scheduled across Mallorca on 22nd April in Capdepera, 30th April in Peguera and 12th May in Alcudia and exact details can be found on the MGMC website.
