Sculpture on the sea front
Regular readers will already know that the pretty resort of Cala Ratjada on Mallorca's east coast has an exhibition of fascinating art works each year along its seafront promenade. The sculptures usually depict some marine theme and this year is no exception as Arta based sculptor Miguel Sarasate has called his exhibition 'Ballant amb les ones' which means Dancing with waves.
The flat metal statues depicting people dancing have an Art Deco, retro look to them, and are currently being installed by council operatives from Capdepera – the local authority for the area – supervised by Miguel Sarasate (photo) himself.
The works are all of different dimensions and are positioned along the seafront so they neither disturb visitors nor detract from the views or environment. The dancers will be in situ all throughout the season, and as in previous years, the artist will also have his work exhibited indoors in the Cap Vermell centre in the resort.
Cala Ratjada is well worth a visit to see the sculptures and you can read more about it, and the accommodation there, on our resort page – Cala Ratjada.
