Lots of totally free activities!
The coming Saturday and Sunday 27th and 28th May, sees the return of the fabulous and totally free water sports weekend in Can Picafort. It's the fourth edition of the aquatic shindig which has a myriad of activities for all both on and under the water – all that's required is that you can swim and for certain sports kids have to be accompanied by an adult.
Most of the activities start around the little harbour in the centre of the resort and include Stand up paddle surfing, kayaking, surfing, sailing, scuba diving, banana boat, first aid, aquafit, and holistic training. There is a downloadable programme available, though not in a language many of us understand, but easy enough to work out what time the sports are scheduled for.
Now, if water sports don't really float your boat, then maybe I can tempt you with food, drink, shopping, music and entertainment? The full title of the event is the Fourth Can Picafort Nautical Sports and Squid and Seafood Gastronomic fair, which is quite a mouthful but reveals quite eloquently just what we're in for – fun!
There'll be a marquee set up in the main Plaza Cervantes near the harbour where squid and seafood tapas will be supplied by a dozen restaurants from the resort, and a further six will be serving up special dishes in their own premises. With seafood as its core, other activities during the weekend are a craft market, live music, DJ's, more live music, discos, fashion shows and show cooking.
If I haven't piqued your interest, then just take a look at the rather colourful drawing made by one of the town's school children. If the presence of what appears to be an aquatic cat squatting on the sand doesn't make you want to go, I don't know what will.
