Alcudia's 17th annual Jazz Festival
If it's September it must be time for the Alcudia Jazz festival. Firmly entrenched on the Mallorca music festival scene, this, the 17th annual festival takes place on weekends throughout the month and as usual there's a wide range of musical styles all within the Jazz genre.
Like other years, the festy kicks off with a free concert in the patio of Alcudia's public library, Can Torro, and the others are all in the more formal setting of the town's Auditorium and all start at 21:00.
Here's who you can see;
1st - Tinons March & The Mopis, a young band playing Jazz and Swing classics by the likes of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.
9th - Highlands Project, a Mallorcan combo specialising in contemporary and progressive Jazz with more than a hint of Funk.
16th – Patax. Jazz Fusion rules as these musicians mix Flamenco, Afrocuban rhythms and with influences from Weather Report, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul and Frank Zappa.
23rd -Kiko Berenguer (photo)saxophonist from Alicante, with a fusion of Flamenco Jazz tinged with Arabic influences, previews his new project Aire. I really like this style of music, it's quite haunting, as you'll hear in the video.
You can pay on the door for the concerts where tickets will cost €18.
