Millions of little square photos
I've oft said that Mallorca has some of the most instagrammable subjects for many a mile and a new study by holiday rental company Holidu helps to back up my assertion. Believe it or not they have managed to count every single Instagram snap – probably using some kind of hashtag based computer wizardry - since the day it was introduced 10 years ago.
As a whole, the Balearic Islands beat rival archipelago the Canaries by no less than nine million snap shots! Within the Balearics Ibiza came out tops with almost 10 million Instagram posts though I'd speculate that given the demographics of the White Isle, the vast majority of these were of the 'me in a club, me outside a club, me by a club billboard' variety.
Mallorca has over 5 million photos whose backgrounds include our lovely beaches, country landscapes and towns or the snow capped mountains and very few of the dog asleep in front of the fire. Palma, my favourite city, was ranked at number seven of the Spanish cities, up there with Madrid and Barcelona with famous places like the Cathedral, Bellver Castle, the port, Paseo Maritimo or Can Pere Antoni beach forming the backdrop for people's holiday adventures.
As our photo format is quite the wrong shape to publish an Instagram, I've used a couple of my holiday snaps of the Almudaina Palace and put a night filter on one and a day filter on the other to illustrate the magic of Instagram – can you tell the difference?
