Palma beach breaks award

Palma gets bronze

el molinar

GoEuro, one of the Internet's big travel information companies has done some extensive research on the rather interesting topic of city and beach breaks – short holidays that combine all the fun and sophistication of a city break, but with the added extra of a beach on hand to relax or hit the waves. You won't be surprised to hear that Palma came out third in the list of European cities with an incredible 97.4 points out of 100, behind only Alicante and Catania and beating the likes of Barcelona and Cannes!

The 100 points total was made up of a combination of the following five factors where 20 points each could be awarded;

•Travel convenience: Based on the amount of time between the airport and city centre’s main train/bus station, and then to the beach. Also, how many types of public transport are available was taken into consideration.

•Water sports: Includes the total amount and different types of water sport activities available on the beach.

•Nightlife: Based upon the number of entertainment options offered at each beach and the different types of activities available, the average price of a 0.5 litre of beer and 0.33 litre of water.

•Beach type: Based upon the highest rated beach on TripAdvisor for each city, combined with the number of beaches in the city and the type of beach, sand or stone.

•Temperature: Average temperature of both water and air from June until August were included in this study.

There's a choice of beaches in the city ranging from Cala Mayor in the west to the main beach of the city, Can Pere Antoni with a promenade running alongside and the little stretches of sand like Es Molinar and Ciudad Jardin going eastwards towards the massive Playa de Palma.

I've used a photo of Es Molinar which has fine, soft sand, some nice bars and restaurants and a quiet villagey feel about it. Well worth the stroll along the prom, prom, prom if you're staying in the city centre.

So, see you on the sand where you can go for bronze too!
